Numbers 23:3-4 King James Version (KJV) 3 And Balaam said unto Balak, Stand by thy burnt offering, and I will go: peradventure the Lord will come to meet me: and whatsoever he sheweth me I will tell thee. And he went to an high place.
4 And God met Balaam: and he said unto him, I have prepared seven altars, and I have offered upon every altar a bullock and a ram.
Numbers 23:3-4 International Standard Version (ISV)
3 Then Balaam instructed Balak, “Stand by your offering and leave me alone by myself. Perhaps the Lord will come to meet me. I’ll tell you whatever he reveals to me.”
And so he went to a high place, 4 where the Lord met with Balaam, who told him, “I’ve prepared seven altars and offered bulls and rams on an altar.”

These are my thoughts, please share yours.
3 This is absolute self will and trying to have God go in favor of what he really wanted to do, many of us have trouble turning from sin but some choose to think that God is behind what they are doing or they try to change Gods's standard of sin and this is the attitude he had.
4 His actions here may show he is serving God but his intentions show he is self serving and these offerings have more to do with what he wants rather then honoring God. Let us offering to God seeking Him and not seeking what we can gain from Him out of it.
