Written For Our Benefit
The Bible has been written for our benefit, giving instructions and encouragement along with the warning to listen to its teachings.
We are inspired when turning to the Psalms with their examples of fervent prayers; of which are appropriate for the time that we are living in. Following are a sampling of Scriptures that encourage you and I in the knowledge of our Loving God who listens and answers prayers.
“5 For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence,
for my hope is from him.
6 He only is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress; I shall not be shaken.
7 On God rests my salvation and my glory;
my mighty rock, my refuge is God.”
(Psalm 62:5-7)
“11 Come, my children, listen to me;
I will teach you the fear of the LORD.
12 Whoever of you loves life
and desires to see many good days,
13 keep your tongue from evil
and your lips from telling lies.
14 Turn from evil and do good;
seek peace and pursue it.”
(Psalm 34:11-14)
“1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say to the LORD, “My refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”
(Psalm 91:1-2)
The Father ultimately demonstrated His love by sending Jesus as our Redeemer - to whom we we are required to listen. When we turn to the Gospels, we are blessed by the teachings of Jesus offering salvation and hope. The Bible contains a treasure of life changing spiritual instructions.
“A voice came from the cloud, saying, “This is my Son, whom I have chosen; listen to him.”
(Luke 9:35)
“6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.””
(John 14:6-7)
“26 but you do not believe because you are not my sheep. 27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. 30 I and the Father are one.”
(John 10:26-30 (NIV)
“50 I declare to you, brothers and sisters, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 51 Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed — 52 in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53 For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. 54 When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.” 55 “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
(1 Corinthians 15:50-57 (NIV)
Today, let us give thanks for the teaching of Scripture.
