We Are Not Alone.
King David led a turbulent life, however, he learned early to turn to Yahweh in times of loneliness, sorrow and trouble. During these times he wrote many of the Psalm’s from which you and I can find comfort in our daily experiences. As an example it was David who wrote concerning the omnipresence of God:
“You have searched me, LORD,
and you know me.
2 You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.
3 You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.
4 Before a word is on my tongue
you, LORD, know it completely.
5 You hem me in behind and before,
and you lay your hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too lofty for me to attain.”
(Psalm 139:1-6 NIV)
This portion of Psalm 139 shows how The Lord knows each one. Because He knows all our ways, you and I can be assured that He understands our needs at all times. Believing this truth is the key to living in the confidence that our Heavenly Father will always be there bringing peace into our life, no matter the seriousness of the situation, for who else is there to turn when our world is shaken? Is He not The Good Shepherd who knows you and I personally? Knows our strengths and weaknesses, our joys and sorrows? Therefore, with confidence we can say: “Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” (Psalm 23:4)
As followers of Jesus we have the great comfort of His assurance when He announced: “I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me— 15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father —and I lay down my life for the sheep.” (John 10:14-15) In this uncertain world you and I will find ourselves trusting in The Lord Jesus more and more, not relying on our own ability. In our daily lives we have come to know how The Good Shepherd leads us to pastures green. (Psalm 23:2) Life in this world may be uncertain, however, through Jesus we can personally know, and experience the very real presence of Our God of all comfort who is familiar with all our ways.
Today, let us praise The Lord who is ever with us.
