Supremacy
In verses 15 thru 20 of Colossians chapter one, Paul speaks to the supremacy of Jesus in His Glory as God’s Son. Verse's 15 to 17 shows His supremacy over creation: "The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together."
The words "image of the invisible God" used here, mean full representation of the invisible God. Jesus was Immanuel, which means God with us as stated in Matthew 1:23. All though He created all things, Jesus came amongst us so that we could spend eternity with Him. Our Creator became our Savior.
Verse's 18 to 20 speaks of Jesus's supremacy in Redemption: "And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. 19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross."
The Father chose the Son to reconcile sinful humanity onto Himself. As verse 18 teaches, no man is the head of the Church, because the Church is the body of believers, and Jesus is the head. He is the firstborn from among the dead - all who have died are still in the grave awaiting the final resurrection - however, death could not hold The Lord of all, for the fullness of God dwelt within Jesus. This was the One who went to the cross for you and I - the Lord of Creation.
Today, let us thank our Heavenly Father for showing us the Supremacy of Jesus.
