Our God Of Comfort
Have you ever wondered about the saying: ‘why do bad things happen to good people?’ Some people believe that every bad thing in life is a punishment for doing something wrong. They are the ones who will say: “Oh I must be such a bad person for this to happen to me.” Are these pessimistic people right in thinking that all negative things that come into our life are a punishment for our behavior? Or, on the other hand, are these experiences not just part of life?
The one thing that no one can deny is that both good and bad things will happen in each and every life. The important point is how we handle our life experience. As an example, in the letter of James he address the subject of trials in a believers life when he wrote: “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” (James 1:2-4) In other words, our trials can be a good experience if we learn from them and come out stronger.
The Christian has the assurance that our Heavenly Father is the God of All Comfort who knows all about our life. He will use our trials for good as Paul explained in 2 Corinthians 1:3-4: “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.” Going through trials we have the opportunity of total reliance upon our Heavenly Father in the most personal of ways. Because, who else is there to turn to when bad things happen then, The Lord who is always there? “Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” (Psalm 23:4)
Today, let us praise Our God of Comfort.
