From the pastor's desk...
Good morning and God bless each and every one of you in the name of Jesus!
"In the year that King Uzziah died,I saw the Lord (Adonay) sitting on a throne, high and lifted up,and the train of His robe filled the temple......Above it stood seraphim.....And one cried to another and said:'Holy, holy, holy is the LORD (Jehovah) of Hosts.......So I (Isaiah) said,....my eyes have seen the King, the LORD (Jehovah) of Hosts." (Isaiah 6:1-5)
I've been studying in Isaiah for a few days now and can not seem to get past this passage of Scripture pertaining to the vision Isaiah had of the LORD God sitting on His throne in Glory.Like the song says,"I can only imagine" what it must have been like for Isaiah to get a glimpse of the pre-Incarnate Jesus Christ,in all of His glory, that He shares with the Father of glory.
You may ask,"How do you know it is speaking of Jesus Christ?
Before I answer that,I'd like to establish the definition of just two words in this context of Isaiah. The first word is:
Lord:According to Strong's Exhaustive Concordance #136 in the Hebrew dictionary is the word "Adonay" which is an emphatic form of #113 "Adon".This word can be applied to both humans or divinity i.e. lord, master, owner. However, the word "Adonay" is used as a proper name for the God of heaven only.It is never applied to humans. It's meaning is;Absolute Sovereign,Ruler,Supreme Master.Once again, this word is never applied to humans, only to God.The second word is:
LORD:According to Strong's Exhaustive Concordance at #3068 we find the word yeh-ho-vaw' which is rendered Jehovah in our English. It's meaning is:self-Existent or Eternal;Jehovah, the Jewish national name of God,Jehovah the Lord (Adonay).
O.K.,so what's your point? Isaiah was given a vision of the Lord, the Supreme Sovereign of all Creation sitting upon His throne in Heaven. He saw Jehovah God in a vision, and was totally speechless.
What is even more astounding is the blindness that many people have over their eyes, when it comes to recognizing that this vision is a vision of Jesus Christ, before He took on human flesh.
The apostle John in his gospel, chapter 12 at verse 41,applies this vision of Isaiah to none other than Jesus Christ.Thereby, directly linking the thought that Jesus Christ in His pre-incarnate state, was in fact Jehovah God,the Supreme Sovereign of the universe and of all things. It could not have been the Father that Isaiah saw,for Jesus Himself said in John 6:46 that He is the only one who has ever seen the Father. Therefore,it was not the Father but the Son,who Isaiah saw.
When we remember that the name Jehovah means:self-Existent,Eternal.It becomes a lot clearer. This is in direct agreement with another statement that Jesus made about Himself in John 8:24,28 and 58.He said He was the "I AM",and in verse 58,He said that before Abraham was,"I AM".He directly linked Himself to the passage in Exodus 3:14.
The LXX,(Septuagint),the Greek translation of the Old Testament popular during the time of Christ and also widely used, uses the Greek words:"ho on" at Exodus 3:14 for the words "I AM".In John 8:58,the Greek words for "I AM" are "ego eimi".It seem that they are two different sets of words. But are they? The words "ho on" and "ego eimi" are forms of the same verb,"to be".The Exodus verb "ho on" is the present participle, meaning "the One who is" or "the being One";while "eimi" is the present indicative,"I AM".Far from being different words altogether, both are present tense forms of the same verb, and are employed to signify timeless existence.
So why the language lesson? There are many today, who say they represent the "True Organization of Jehovah" and His Theocratic Organization. They deliberately have twisted these two verses to make them say something completely opposite of what it actually says. Most of the membership of this "Organization" are in darkness as to what the leadership has taught them.If this group of individuals should knock on your door, and try to explain that Jesus is not Jehovah, you not only have the text from Isaiah and John to refute their heresy, but you also have a language lesson that directly shoots down their teaching, and proves it to be false.
One other thing that really seals the issue is this: When Jesus used the wording that He did in John 8:58,It was intentional,to show His eternal existence. The Jews understood so well what He said that they picked up stones to stone Him to death, because they thought that He had blasphemed God.
The conclusion is this. There are only three possible scenarios a person can draw from this:
1.) Jesus was lying and can't be trusted.
2.) Jesus was insane and should have been committed.
3.) Jesus was telling the truth and can be trusted in all He taught and said.
The decision is yours,I pray you choose wisely.
May God bless you all,and thank you for your time.........John.
P.S. I don't know of anyone,in their right mind, except maybe an infidel, who would be willing to choose the first two scenarios.
