When You And I Came To Faith
When you and I came to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ there was an amazing change in our lives, not only in our normal outward life, but most importantly our spiritual life. This is because we are now justified in God's sight: "Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. 3 Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4 perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 And hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us." (Romans 5: 1-5)
What does Paul mean when he states that born again believers in Jesus Christ are justified by faith? When you and I came to faith in Christ as our Savior - the guilt of our sins was cancelled. God declared us righteous due to our now right standing in the Lord Jesus as our Savior. We were redeemed, which is a word taken from the slave market, meaning to be released by payment of a ransom. In Christianity it refers to our release from the guilt of sin and it's liability for judgment because, Jesus has paid our ransom on the cross, thus we are no longer slaves to our old sinful ways.
This new experience also brings a peace with God which is only possible when we have arrived at that place in our lives, where we can personally say that I am a child of God because, my Heavenly Father - as a loving God - sent His Son into our world so that I could experience forgiveness, combined with the assured knowledge of spending eternity with Him. This is Gods loving grace offered to you and I.
Because of this grace we also face suffering in a new way. Knowing that our lives are in Gods hands, we have the faith to understand that when we do experience suffering, our Heavenly Father has allow it. Such experiences will produce perseverance and a deeper reliance on Him. This is something that I can testify to personally, for it was when undergoing cancer surgery some years ago that I had the incredible experience of The Good Shepherd beside me throughout my trial - bringing peace and comfort. Such experience's create character in the child of God under the guidance of The Holy Spirit, who dwells in our hearts.
Today, let us praise our Heavenly Father for His Amazing Grace.
