Spiritual Fullness In Jesus
The letters of Paul were written and passed down to you and I for our instruction on how to live the Christian life in the spiritual fullness in Jesus Christ. As an example let us look at the second chapter of the letter to the Colossians where Paul addressed new believers concerning their life changing faith in The Lord Jesus:
“6 So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, 7 rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”
The Christian faith is unlike any other religions system because, it is strictly faith in the person of The Lord Jesus and His life changing Salvation. When a person comes to faith in Jesus by confessing their need of His Salvation, they literally experience a spiritual rebirth as Jesus explained to Nicodemus: “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.” (John 3:3)
Paul continues by warning his readers about false worldly religious systems often based on traditions which may sound very spiritual however, unless they are Christ centered they are Powerless to Save:
“8 See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ.”
For some people Jesus was just a good man who did many good things during his life. However, that is not the Jesus of The Bible which portrays Him as so much more, as Paul explains:
“9 For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, 10 and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority. 11 In him you were also circumcised with a circumcision not performed by human hands. Your whole self ruled by the flesh was put off when you were circumcised by Christ,”
Having portrayed Jesus as Devine, Paul continues by teaching on our redemption and spiritual fullness in Christ Jesus, beginning with baptism:
“12 having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through your faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead. 13 When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, 14 having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. 15 And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.”
This then is Paul’s insightful teaching on the spiritual fullness found in Jesus who declared in John 11:25-26: “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, 26 and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?”
Today, let us give thanks for the spiritual fullness found in Jesus.
