Today, If You Hear His Voice
Into each life there will come a time when we hear the voice calling us into Gods Kingdom. For some this voice will be drowned out by life and all it’s distractions; be they pleasure or struggles. For others this was the greatest life changing day of our lives. The day when we recognized God’s Love calling us into the Kingdom of The Son - the day when we confessed our need of forgiveness, and received Redemption.
Both in Psalm 95, and Hebrews chapter 3, we have the warning: “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts” The verse is a warning, and refers to the time of the exodus from Egypt, when the Hebrew people rebelled against God in the wilderness. As an explanation to the seriousness of rebelling against God; Hebrews 3:7-13 reads:
“7 So, as the Holy Spirit says:
“Today, if you hear his voice,
8 do not harden your hearts
as you did in the rebellion,
during the time of testing in the wilderness,
9 where your ancestors tested and tried me,
though for forty years they saw what I did.
10 That is why I was angry with that generation;
I said, ‘Their hearts are always going astray,
and they have not known my ways.’
11 So I declared on oath in my anger,
‘They shall never enter my rest.’ ”
The statement ‘They shall never enter my rest,’ is an awful condemnation utter by our Holy God, who has shown love in the affairs of humanity throughout history. Even going to the ultimate extent of offering His Son as an Atoning Sacrifice for our sin. This statement also proves false the belief held by so many that everyone goes to Heaven when they die. Verse’s 12 and 13 of Hebrews chapter 3 carries a series warning for you and I, when it states:
“12 See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. 13 But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.”
These verse’s are a warning for all who have what is sometimes referred to as a ‘lukewarm faith’. The author is warning everyone who claims to be a true follow of Christ that they must not harbor sin in their lives. Sin leads to deceitfulness whereby our hearts can be hardened, and consequently we will fail to live a life of righteousness.
And so, if today you hear His voice, repent, and receive Our Heavenly Father’s forgiving love into your life; whereby you become a child of God.
Today, let us respond to The Spirits leading in our lives.
