The Carpenter
Entering the workshop The young carpenter looks around, Wood and hammer on the bench How he loves the smell and sound,
Over many years in this shop Patently learning his trade, Fashioning the wood Pleased with what he’s made,
It is now time to move on There’s a message to be preached, He knows his calling People need to be reached,
The carpenter from Nazareth Now walks in Galilee, Proclaiming God’s Kingdom Calling disciples from the sea,
People travel for miles To hear the new teacher, Only God can perform such signs The Spirit draws each seeker,
It was outside Jerusalem Upon a wooden cross He died, Praying: “Father forgive” A spear pierced His side,
The pounding of a hammer Secures a sign above His head, “Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews” The onlookers read.
John Joseph Fox 2005.
