God displays his mercy by not giving us what we deserve. God's grace is revealed by giving us what we do not deserve. Before clarifying salvation in biblical terms, it will be helpful to look at ways of “salvation” that are not in line with Christian theology.

Need to realize we could never repay God beyond Him as hard as we try and working hard. But that we can do the best to imitate Him despite not being perfect and falling short of His glory. Still God sent Jesus to take care of it once and for all.
