Facing Troubling Times.
No matter how much we desire it, there is no one person who’s life has been lived trouble free. It matters not if a person has, or has not, the wealth to live a comfortable life, trouble will filter into their life one way or another, be it health or tragedy. How one faces troubling times is crucial for both our mental and spiritual health.
Reading The Bible we see many great hero’s of the faith face troubling times in their lives. They became examples for you and I in the way they faced and handled them. As an example King David was a man who experienced great turmoil in his life. Notwithstanding, David also shows unflinching faith in God when he wrote in Psalm 3:3-4: ”But you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high. 4 I call out to the Lord, and he answers me from his holy mountain.”
Verse’s such as these are a great source of faith builders in times of need. They can help you and I to lift our spirits when personalized as prayer. So what is meant by the line: “But you, Lord, are a shield around me”? David was a man of war and understood the importance of having a shield to protect from the enemy. At that time in history the king was seen as a shield for the people because, he was the man of power with his army to protect the people from their enemies.
As born again believers, we have a shield around us in the person’s of both The Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit of whom we can call upon as Jesus assured us in John 14:15-18: “If you love me, keep my commands. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.”
While writing to the Church in Rome, Paul reminds all believers of the reason that we can put our trust in The Lord: “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him! 10 For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! 11 Not only is this so, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.” (Romans 5:8-11)
Today, let us praise The Lord for His presence in troubling times.
