The Lord Who Brings Healing
When I first became a believer I attended prayer meetings where I came to know The Lord Who Brings Healing. This was a very exciting time in my life, meeting and praying with people who were enthusiastic about their faith in The God who loved them, and who hears and answers prayers. The teaching at these meetings was on The Lordship of Jesus Christ, emphasising the importance of committing our lives to Him because, the greatest healing is the healing of our soul from sin.
At the conclusion of each meeting we would pray for one another's needs. The next week I would be amazed upon hearing people share how The Lord had answered their prayer requests. What an amazing God: "Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. 2 Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits— 3 who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, 4 who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion." (Psalm 103:1-4)
When Jesus began His ministry, He taught the people about The Kingdom of God and healed all who came to Him as stated in Matthew 9:35: "Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness." In John 3:3 Our Lord declared: "Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again." To be born again, one must repent and accept the Lordship of Jesus Christ, thereby receiving The Holy Spirit. It is through the anointing of The Holy Spirit that we receive the courage to share The Gospel - telling of Gods love and forgiveness: "Jesus answered, "Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. 6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. 7 You should not be surprised at my saying, 'You must be born again.' (John 3:5-7)
Later I became a member of a ministry that would conduct Sunday service's in our local hospital, and also spend time visiting and praying with patients. It is so encouraging knowing how The Lord uses compassionate men and woman in the medical field to bring healing to a hurting world. It was many years later - when requiring surgery - that I experienced this compassion personally, both through hospital staff, and concerned family and fellow believers. An example of childlike faith occurred the night before going into hospital. This was while my family were praying and I heard my two young granddaughters asking Jesus: "to be with Poppa and make him well." Hearing their prayer was a humbling experience. The next morning I went to the hospital with confidence, knowing that I was not alone because the presence of The Lord was very real - bringing peace - and the surgery resulted in physical healing.
I do pray that you also know The Lord who heals both body and soul: "He himself bore our sins" in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; "by his wounds you have been healed." For "you were like sheep going astray," but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls." (1 Peter 2: 24-25) The Lord is only a prayer away - always hearing - and always ready to answer prayer, and forgive a repentant sinner - bringing healing to their soul.
Today, let us thank our faithful God who heals both body and soul.
