(1) Guard your steps when you go to the house of God, and be more ready to hear than to give the sacrifice of fools. For they do not know that they are doing evil.
(2) Do not be rash with your mouth, and do not let your heart be hasty to say a word before God. For God is in Heaven, and you are on earth; therefore let your words be few.
(3) For a dream comes through the multitude of business; and a fool's voice by the multitude of words. Ecclesiastes 5:1-3 MKJV
Words are very powerful, it is because of words hurdled toward one another there are many conflicts, contentions, and divisions caused and established in the world and in the body of Christ. Words have intrinsic value because they manifest the mind through the mouth; but, also can be used to console, counsel, and consolidate. Words are the highways to success or failure, words are bearers of our emotions, the declaration our devotions, they are the emissions of our imaginations and the discourses of our disprovable.
Our opening passage reminds us of how important words are to God. In this passage we see that he warns us to approach the house of God with sincerity, with presence of mind, to approach with a will and focus to hear; rather than to give the sacrifice of fools. We’re warned not to enter into his presence incogitant concerning what we say, and not to speak thoughtlessly and endlessly because the foolishness of the heart is manifested in the abundance of the words which are spoken. This is when words are detrimental to our lives because they are only sounds in the wind which do not have the force of manifested deeds.
God is showing us in this passage that our words should be few, but also that our words should also have enforcement and validation through the manifestation of purpose filled actions. The context of this passage explains to us about the dangers and blessings of making vows to God during our time in prayer. Often; in times of prayer our words can become hasty because of the heat of a battle, or the pain of in our body, or the agony of our hearts, and for whatever other reason we may hastily pledge things we would have been better off not pledging. This kind of praying becomes detrimental to our spiritual walk, because it is filled with false promises. Yes, once we realize our mistake in this affront to God he is ready to forgive us once we repent and correct ourselves. Hence; let our words be few and our actions be many. If one must pledge to God, one must keep the pledge, therein lies the blessing.
The underlying point I want to make is the usage of words in our lives as well as in our prayers, for the word of God teaches us that every idle word that men shall speak they shall give an account of, it goes on to say that by our words we are condemned and by our words we are justified. Why? Because words are mirrors of our minds, they manifest our mindset; for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.
God attributes a lot of weigh and worth to the words which flow out of our mouths, whether those words are true or false, inspiring or insulting, motivating or belittling, edifying or divisive. Words can spark the flames of revival, produce faith in the hearer, establish principles, and unify people; or insight a riot, produce fear in the hearer, eradicate principles, and divide people. The incarnation which is the Word of God made flesh; was for our salvation to save us from our sins which were bundled up with our vanities of lust and pride. The word found us polluted in the blood of our Adamic nature, and through its own will restored us to the relationship we had before that devastating fall in garden of Eden.
(18) Of His own will He brought us forth with the Word of truth, for us to be a certain firstfruit of His creatures.
(19) Therefore, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.
(20) For the wrath of man does not work out the righteousness of God.
(21) Therefore putting aside all filthiness and overflowing of evil, receive in meekness the implanted Word, which is able to save your souls.
(22) But become doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
James 1:18-22 MKJV
Words are important, they have intrinsic value, they are the emissions of our emotions, they manifest our minds when they manifest their sounds pushed into our hearing by the thoughts which flows from our hearts. God tells us as brethren, let us all be swift and keen to hear, slow, deliberate, and precise when speaking in response or preemptively, and to be predetermined to be as passive as possible concerning our unrighteous anger. We must manifest the Word of God as those whom have been born by the will of God through the Word of God through repentance by the godly sorrow which was produced by the revelation of that very same Word.
Brethren keep the faith today by determining to allow the Lord to set a watch over your mouth and to keep a door over your lips. To be super sensitive to hear what the Spirit is saying at all times, and the faith will keep the words you speak full of the power and presence of the almighty God, for a word fitly spoken by the unction of the Lord is anointed to bring God’s desired results in the paths of righteousness.
