Holiness not Haughtiness!
(25) If we are living by the Spirit's power, let our conduct also be governed by the Spirit's power.
(26) Let us not become vain-glorious, challenging one another, envying one another. Galatians 5:25-26 WNT
I wish I was as holy as some people think they are, the fact is; none of us have arrived, we are all a work in progress. I remember the time I stood in front of the church with a bag of rocks, as my parishioners came in I handed them a rock telling them I was going to do an illustrated sermon. After the worship service I preached on “ those who are without sin cast the first stone “.
Of course not one person could cast a stone, because even though its true that all of us may be justified by the blood of Jesus, its also true, as long as we are in this life we are being sanctified by the washing of the water of the word, in other words it’s a process. The Apostle John tells us if we say we are without sin, we make God a liar and the truth is not in us. This is why Jesus told us to strive to enter in at the straight gate and walk the narrow path of righteousness.
I have found that true holiness is full of the love and compassion of God, it compels us to help not hurt those who are struggling with sin. It gives hope to the hopeless, and tells them if you do sin we have an advocate with the Father, his name is Jesus the Son of Righteousness who intercedes before the throne of God. On the flip side haughtiness is unloving and apathetic, it compels us to condemn, turn away, and give up on those who need Jesus the most.
(1) Brothers, if a man is overtaken in a fault, you the spiritual ones restore such a one in the spirit of meekness, considering yourself, lest you also be tempted.
(2) Bear one another's burdens, and so you will fulfill the Law of Christ. Galatians 6:1-2 MKJV
Christians practice holiness, hypocrites practice haughtiness. Christians practice forgiveness, hypocrites practice unforgiveness. Christians practice restoration, hypocrites practice condemnation.
Notice the passage said “ you the spiritual ones restore….in the spirit of meekness “ not haughtiness!
Myself I am striving for biblical holiness not religious haughtiness, there are many people in the world who need Jesus, they already have some form of religion. But if we lift Jesus up before them and express Jesus to them in our words, actions, and works, they will hunger and thirst for the relationship with God they see us having, not ignore the hollow words they hear us saying.
