BE RELEVANT! GOD IS!
For those whom don’t believe God can be relevant, and that we should not be relevant, then they should learn Coine Greek, Aramaic, and Hebrew, then they should only sings the psalms in Hebrew with only Hebrew style music. What the Apostle Paul said about relevant ministry:
(19) Though free from all human control, I have made myself the slave of all in the hope of winning as many converts as possible.
(20) To the Jews I have become like a Jew in order to win Jews; to men under the Law as if I were under the Law--although I am not--in order to win those who are under the Law;
(21) to men without Law as if I were without Law--although I am not without Law in relation to God but am abiding in Christ's Law--in order to win those who are without Law.
(22) To the weak I have become weak, so as to gain the weak. To all men I have become all things, in the hope that in every one of these ways I may save some.
(23) And I do everything for the sake of the Good News, that I may share with my hearers in its benefits.
1st Corinthians 9:19-23 WNT
Why because things like translating the bible into English is so that it is relevant, things like Southern Gospel Music or African American Spirituals, were developed to be relevant, Hymns were written to be relevant, sermons are outlined and preached to be relevant, worship songs and music are written to be relevant. Being relevant is a resource we use to bring people to the true and living God, Once they know him, then they learn to Worship Him in Spirit and Truth. Often that worship is in the form or fashion of culture in which they were raised.
To be relevant means to be able to relate to, to comprehend, to understand through making a logical connection. Wow! Relevance is important to God, because he relates to us through the things we relate too. Jesus told parables to be relevant by connecting ordinary things to spiritual principles.
If I preach in English to people who do not speak English, I will not connect to them, why? Because language is relevant. I have found that learning to speak a few words, eat a meal, and accept and enjoy cultural differences are all part of being relevant and help to break down barriers that divide and hinder my ministry.
So being relevant is very important to the process of reaching an individual, a group, a culture, and even a nation. Being relevant is significant, suitable, and substantial in winning souls and teaching people how to grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ.
Language, Music, Culture, and even Attire are Relative and Relevant in being effective, its not lowering one’s standard to reach out in the love of Christ to win someone to Jesus.
Just remember when you are being the most effective, that’s when the super critics come out! God knows your heart if what you do in his name is pleasing to Him. Then it doesn’t matter what the critics say, keep on keeping on! Keep reaching people the way God sanctioned you to reach them!
More Power to You in the Name of Jesus! Selah.
Shalom & Agape!
