Hot Dogs, Hot Dogs, get your Hot Dogs Here!
Years ago I started food distribution as part of my outreach ministries when I was in Indiana, its been part and parcel of my ministry because I have a heart to help the poor when I am blessed enough to do so. One thing I found out during those years of food distribution was a mechanic of soul winning which stands the test of time.
I found out if you win a soul with hot dogs, you will have to keep them in hot dogs. In other words, if our ministries put an emphasis on a certain mechanism or gimmick to wins souls that gimmick or mechanism becomes the means of keeping them in the body. It is within the nature of carnal man to gravitate to something that is free or pleasurable. In my own experience, I seen many who really didn’t want to serve God come to our food give away and partake of the bounty which was provided for them time after time.
While our intentions were good, our results were poor as far as winning souls into the kingdom. Once the goodies were gone, so were the superficial seekers. I found out that if one was going to win souls into the kingdom, it would be by preaching the word of God as the first and foremost importance. If one is won to God through the word of God then they eventually would be born of the word of God.
Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures. James 1:18 KJV
The bible teaches us that faith is developed by hearing and understanding the word of God. Yes God uses the foolishness of preaching to win the lost to himself. Because if the word gets them the word will keep them.
(13) For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
(14) How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
(15) And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!
(16) But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?
(17) So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Romans 10:13-17 KJV
God is a God of order, when we follow his order, we will have fruitful results in the realm of souls. Unfortunately many are flocking after experiential and subjectivity in their pursuit of God instead of the substance of the word of God. So many today are more concerned about being moved or soothed! Therefore; into an emotional state of ecstasy or soothed into a state of pseudo comfort, where they’re never really founded and grounded in the word of God.
A true preacher and teacher of God will emphasis the Word of God above everything else when presenting the Gospel. Emotional heartfelt preaching that is based upon sound doctrine will always produce Christians who are striving for balance in their lives.
Do I still believe in giving, and using different means to attract people to a meeting? Yes, but once I have an audience, I emphasis the important of receiving Christ the Living Word of God, and that the event or what we are giving away is only a temporary solution to a problem or a temporary escape from a mundane existence. But we have something eternal to offer them and therefore present the Gospel of God so to begat a soul through the word of God. If the Word gets them the Word will keep them unto eternal life.
As fishers of men’s souls it is incumbent upon us to use bait appropriately followed by sound and solid bible teaching that grounds and founds them into the Kingdom of God. If one only uses hot dogs without the proper follow up, get ready to buy a lot of hot dogs, you will need them. Remember “ he that wins souls is wise” or in other words uses wisdom to win souls! When we use the word wisely those who are begotten through will want more of the word, and hot dogs will be a want of the past.
Brethren keep the faith, by exalting the Word of God above anyone or anything on this earth, those things are only temporary, but the Word of God will live and abide forever and ever, Kingdom without End.
