Simply share with us what verse(S) or Bible quote(s) that you like and why? What does it mean to you or how has it helped you in your life?

I have to admit that through my life, I focused on The New Testament. I just want to say that I more than read random scriptures in The Old Testament, 4 years ago; I read it from the beginning, as I would a book. It has helped me to know and understand God better. As my husband would say, it makes you know God's heart. I honestly feel that I learned to love God even more because of actually thoroughly reading The Old Testament. It made a difference in my life.

It's good to read that you have found in your heart to look at the Old Testament. So many people make the terrible mistake of simply following the N/T. There is much to be learn't from the Old and taking portions from both give us a great balance of what God has to say to us. If you have not spotted it yet we have a link that takes us to a guy called Tom Dooley who is a great bible reader. Each day a portion from the old & new testament is read and through out the year it will take you from cover to cover. This is the link www.friendsofjesus.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=godswordfbcd&action=display&thread=25 to the page we host it on.

Thank you, Les. Yes, it's very important to understand God's heart, through the old testament, as well as in the new.

It's lovely that you are using the forum. Manyvisit here but it's very rare that people write. When this forum lauched in October last year it was intending to reach out in a interactive way; God spoke to me earlier this year to take Friends of Jesus to face-book. Even though there are catagories for subjects, just feel free to respond in anyway how our Lord leads you too. This site belongs to our God at the end of the day, i am simply here serving Him for his glory..... By all means to share things your self that may not be listed here to lead the way; as long as it brings home the message of God and his Son Jesus, I'm very happy.

I love Hebrew poetry. The idea of thought rhyme as the authors use parallelism to convey truth is amazing. A favorite is Ecclesiastes 12:13-14. It is my favorite OT passage
The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. 14 For God will bring every deed into judgment, with every secret thing, whether good or evil. ESV

Here is another:
See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Beloved, we are God's children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure. (1 John 3:1-3 ESV)
I wish the English translations could really capture the word translated "See" or "Behold" better. The apostle captures his wonder and awe that the love of the Father is so magnificent that we should not only be labelled as children of God - but we are in fact made his children.
If we capture that same awe, we capture the hope that we will see him and we will be like him. This blessed hope is our motive to purify ourselves because the one we love and hope to be like is so very pure.
