LOVE IS NOT AN EXCUSE!
Love is never an excuse for immorality, forgiveness yes, but excusing it only fuels the engine that produces more of the same. If our God is not a God of godly morality, who sets a standard for his Children to follow, then why serve Him at all, if we excuse every immoral trait we have and attribute it to his love overlooking it.
Then we have surely missed the mark! Agape rebukes immorality in our lives, and forgives us once we repent, but it never excuses us, it demands that we are transformed more into the likeness of Christ by adhering to the standard of Christ in the Word of God.
Blaming someone else or something for our failure to conform to the standard won’t wash our sins away, only when we realize we are at fault, repent, and receive correction concerning a particular flaw in our character can a transformation begin. For instance God never excused Adam for his transgression when he tried to pass the blame onto Eve, instead He confronted Adam, penalized him, then forgave him by covering his nakedness which is a figure of covering sins.
(16) All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: (17) That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 KJV
Today people don’t want doctrine, reproof, correction, or instruction. They prefer to serve their own interest and put God’s approval on it while living fast and loose in the process, declaring nothing can separate me from the love of God. Willful premeditated sin is never acceptable, however; they love to quote Romans 8:33 -39 as justification for their pernicious ways not effecting their standing with God. The context of that scripture is about the love of God not the grace of God. When scripture clearly defines what continued willful sin will do concerning our relationship with God.
(26) For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
(27) But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
(28) He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:
(29) Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? Hebrews 10:26-29 KJV
The Word of God has always warned us of those who take God’s grace for granted. Who will not hear sound doctrine or adhere to every facet of its divine wisdom and instruction. Those are the ones who have a distain for preachers and teachers who minister the whole counsel of God’s word, those are the ones who turn a deaf ear to them and follow those that make them feel good instead of conform to the word. I follow Christ.
(1) I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;
(2) Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
(3) For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 2 Timothy 4:1-3 KJV
Brethren, Love is never an excuse, therefore keep the faith by subscribing to and adhering to the whole counsel of God. There are many who need Jesus in the world. We are suppose to the salt of the world, the examples of true Christ like living. There is much work to do within the body, but especially reaching out to a lost world with the true gospel. We therefore should walk in wisdom redeeming our time to be transformed, so we can be a more effective witness with our words coupled with a godly lifestyle.
(5) Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.
(6) Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man. Colossians 4:5-6 KJV
