O Tis Sweet to Trust in Jesus
“ Surely the goodness and mercy of the Lord shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever ”.
What a wonderful thought and what a wonderful reality for those who have decided to be the flock of the loving shepherd. He is the Good Shepherd who loves his sheep.
When I was in India, I had the opportunity to see several herds of sheep and goats being drove by their shepherds. In every instance the shepherd was not in front of the sheep, but following the sheep. There would be a lead sheep which would be out in front of the herd, but the shepherd would be following them all, so that every sheep was in his protective gaze. I seen the same thing with cattle herders in Africa, a shepherd with a staff walking behind the herd guiding it with a his voice and his staff.
“ He restoreth my soul; he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for thy name’s sake, Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me “
Sometimes it seems like we are out front walking in a direction we do not understand, but if we take the time to listen we will hear the footsteps of our loving shepherd sounding out directions through his still small voice and the sound of his staff striking the ground behind us in confirmation that he has not left us, but is guiding us to green pastures and still waters to spread out a table before us in the presence of our enemies while he watches over us with vigilance.
Yes Refreshment, Restoration, and Righteousness are the benefits of being led by the Good Shepherd who loves us and cares for us with a redeeming love. “ O tis sweet to trust in Jesus, just to take him at his word “.
