This is a prayer request letter sent to all our prayer partners:
Prayers are working! Praise God!!! Thank You!!!
Bob has a lot of Faith & Bob Knows From Where His Help Comes From! Bob spirits have always been up! Bob has always had a really good attitude and is happy, joyful and playful. He rolls his eyes a lot & gets everyone to laugh. He has always worked hard at getting better & getting stronger. They first called Bob and overachiever, and the speech therapist, the physical therapist and occupational therapist said Bob is an overachiever; at that time they limited his time while working with him because he would tire himself so much it was a detriment to his health.
He is using the alphabet board a lot faster when he spells out words. There are three lines of the alphabet we ask him: line one.. line two.. line three, when we come to the line he nods now (instead of blinking) then we say the letters in the line like line one a.. b... c.. d.. & so forth and he has his eyes closed when we say the right letter for the word Bob opens his eyes we write the letters and form the words etc.. to a sentence till we get his message to us; most times we can guess before all of it is spelled out. Bob goes really fast now and more RN's are using the board cause so much easier than guessing what he needs. It is like playing charades. Bob is really good at it!
· Last Saturday Bob had improved so much in two weeks that we, (my brother Leo & his wife Shirley and I praised him, clapped & were cheering & laughing; Bob's improvements
have made him work even harder at pushing himself. For example Bob was having a hard time sitting in the chair upright (very painful for him) and was refusing to so very often. Now, they say, this week each day I call to check on him, that he has been sitting up 2 hours every day this past week; I think sometimes they sneak more minutes in. This increases the strength in Bobs lungs because when he lays his lungs are partially collapsed, when he is upright his lungs are able to be fully expanded w/air. He is breathing his own breath along w/the ventilator which strengthens his chest muscles. this last Wednesday when I called they said he has been moving his shoulders! Glory to God! Praise God!!! Which we believe his diaphragm will be next to begin to work again; which then with everything being stronger Bob will be weaned off his vent.
Please pray for his chest muscles, lungs & diaphragm to fully recover so Bob is able to go off the vent!
Please pray Bob's doctor, Dr. Ronald Reisman, does not order Bob to be placed in the Williamsburg Nursing Home in Crawfordsville, Indiana, which is a vented nursing home (has vent care patients)! Please pray Bob stays Healthy while recovering! Please pray that the bedsore behind Bob's head dissipates and he doesn't get anymore. Amen.
· The reason we need prayer so they do not move Bob to a nursing home called Williamsburg in Crawfordsville which is not for from Indianapolis, (it is the only one they told us in Southern Indiana that has vented care). There is nothing wrong w/the nursing home except they do not have the ability to meet Bob's needs at this time which is the reason we need prayer so they do not move Bob to the nursing home. The hospital keeps saying they are going to move Bob (telling us on a daily basis) if he does not keep showing improvements every day, Praise God so far he is! The hospital said the reason they are moving him so he can get strengthened and then after maybe three months he will be stronger then so they can move Bob back to wean him off the vent. The hospital first told us several times over the phone & at a meeting w/the dr. and two case managers that Bob's insurance only pays for 150 days of acute care. Now they are denying they said that to us. The hospital is telling us it is completely up to Bob's doctor whether Bob is moved because his Dr. will tell the insurance Bob no longer needs their hospital. Bob's Dr. has told Leah & I, he will take care of Bob as long as Bob needs him too.
Our family knows that he will not be able to make it even at a good vented nursing home, because he needs acute care where they can monitor his blood, have x-rays when needed, tests every day to keep his health monitored.. Also our family's reason for needing prayer to not move Bob to the nursing home is because Leah & I visited that vented hospital and we know w/o a doubt because of his health being what it is at this point in time they cannot meet his needs. They told us that doctors would not be seeing Bob every day; if he becomes sick and they think he needs a doctor, Bob would be transferred to the doctor, or to a hospital in an ambulance to recover. The nursing home told us that A vented nursing home will not accept anyone on a vent until they are stable & they have a certain vent number which means the ventilator would be at a lower rate of breaths taken a minute, meaning Bob would be taking more breathes on his own.
· We Believe Our Lord & With Our Prayers is what is helping Bob improve and is what is keeping Bob healthier and keeping Bob in this hospital, keeping those orders from being given from Dr. Reisman to move him! Amen. AND this past Wednesday Leah & I have told them over the phone we do not give them permission to move him to the nursing home; because one of Bob's case managers told me they were moving him this coming Monday. An RN told me they cannot do that without discussing this with us.
· Once Bob is off the vent we want to move him close to us, here in our vicinity so Bob can go to the Washington Rehabilitation. We know if we can get him here w/family & friends he will improve tremendously! Because we can see him every day as often as we want plus we can work with him with his rehabilitation! Please pray for us when we visit this Saturday tomorrow October 19th. We, Leah & I, are going to be going there this coming Saturday, my sister Donna is flying in from Arkansas. Donna is a LPN, and she is going to examine the bed sore on his head, and we are going to insist they roll a sheet behind his neck while he is lying on his back, to get the pressure off of it; and to take the bandage off it at least once every day so it will be able to receive air. And I am going to insist that I will receive the results of Bob's nerve conduction test which was done almost two weeks ago. This is a test while being conducted which Immediately Shows the Neurologist approximately how many good nerve endings are in Bob's body, [this test does not let us know anything about damaged nerves. They are withholding this information from us saying it has not been dictated yet to the hospital chart.
Thank You all so much for all your prayers. God Bless You! We Love You!
Sorry if I repeated myself!
Love Nita
