The Relevance of Psalms Today
Psalm 2
As I sat in the presence of the Lord meditating on this Psalm and as the Holy Spirit began to reveal the every present awesomeness of our God, my entire being began to praise Him for the assured victory over the situations we see in the world today. This passage is applicable to the life of individual believers, but is more appropriately applied to a nation. We are going to observe the application of this Psalm as it pertains to the life of our nation.
“Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?
This verse describes the ungodly groups that lobby to get their ungodly agendas established as the law of the land. Their evil imaginations have proposed worthless, empty and socially destructive programs. Their agendas consciously and willfully oppose the word of God. As we will study in the next verse, these ungodly groups have the ears of high governmental officials. Does this scenario sound familiar?
“The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed saying,”
If we look honestly at the laws that are taking precedence in our nation, ungodly law that are being supported by the President, other governmental officials and the supreme judicial office this verse becomes acutely and vividly apparent in our lives. We see this verse be enacted not only in the laws being passed, but also in the aggressive movement to remove the word of God from governmental and public squares. There is also a great movement to suppress the Christian voice. You can mention the name of false gods, but not the name of Jesus the true and living God.
“Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.”
The agenda of the ungodly and the government is to destroy the authority and rule of the Lord Jesus Christ and His follower. We have to remember that Satan is truly behind this agenda and he is influencing the behaviors and actions of these groups. This world and the laws that govern this world were established by God and the ungodly want to be out from under His rule. When it says “and cast away their cords from us” we see that the ungodly are bound by the word of God, the laws of God that govern this world. They know that God’s word governs them and they want to be free of His rule over their lives. So they seek through this counterfeit world system to establish their own rules and to govern themselves.
If we stop reading here the outlook for believers may looks a little grim. Do not stop reading because our God is about to chime in and be who He is, the Almighty. Join us next week for part two of Psalm 2. Have a blessed week!
