The Relevance of Psalms Today
Psalm 2 (part 2)
Reflections from Psalm 2:1-3 last week’s study: This world and the laws that govern this world were established by God and they alter not. They are eternal. God’s sovereign reign cannot be legislated out of this nation or our world.
In part two of this study we observe God’s response to the ungodly, the leaders and their agendas.
“He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.
God’s response to the heathen and the leaders that attempt to remove Him, His word and His rule from the public square, the lives of the people and the life of our nation is reveal in verse four. He is laughing at them. As I am writing this, the Holy Spirit is speaking to my heart saying, their foolish minds are darkened. God is laughing at their foolishness. The word derision means an object of ridicule: a laughingstock and this is how God see them and this is how we should see them too.
I frequently hear believers say “God is in control” but our actions often do not match their words. Know my brothers and sisters that it is absolutely true. He is in total control. Do not let your natural eyes deceive you. Open your spiritual eyes and see His Lordship and the role that you play in ruling with Him.
“Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.”
After God stops laughing, the word says “Then shall he speak unto them is his wrath.” The first thing I need you to grasp is the tense of this sentence because it is very important in understand this passage. Just a little bit of a grammar lesson here. It is spoken in a present continual tense. This is not something that is going to happen in the future. It is happening right now. God is speaking to them and they are being vexed in the spirit. We tend to look on the outward appearance, but if we would look beyond the surface appearance into the souls of these people we would see the wrath and vexation they have brought upon themselves. One of God’s laws that govern this world is found in Galatians 6:7 and it states “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.”
“Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.”
God the Father is speaking to the ungodly and the leaders of today about His King, King Jesus, whose reign is eternal. It has no beginning and it has no end. King Jesus is reigning today from heaven through the Holy Spirit that indwells, resides, is housed in every believer. We are right now ruling and reigning with Jesus Christ. Saints we need to understand the power and authority that dwells in us, because the next two verses apply not only to Jesus but to us.
“Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. Thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.”
God is telling us just as He told Joshua to go in and possess the land. We have been given power to destroy their ungodly agendas “dash them in pieces.” God said, “Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.” I had to repeat that. Are you asking for those heathen that hound you on your job, in your family, in your church, on your block, in your neighborhood, in your city, in your state, in our country? I want them saved, healed, and delivered. I am asking and I am seeing miracles. Ask!
