Romans 11:6-8
King James Version (KJV)
6 And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then it is no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.
7 What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded.
8 (According as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear;) unto this day.
Romans 11:6-8
Living Bible (TLB)
6 And if it is by God’s kindness, then it is not by their being good enough. For in that case the free gift would no longer be free—it isn’t free when it is earned.
7 So this is the situation: Most of the Jews have not found the favor of God they are looking for. A few have—the ones God has picked out—but the eyes of the others have been blinded. 8 This is what our Scriptures refer to when they say that God has put them to sleep, shutting their eyes and ears so that they do not understand what we are talking about when we tell them of Christ. And so it is to this very day.

6 Salvation is not by works. We can not do anything or be good enough to get to glory. The law was based off living by works. The Pharisees rejected Jesus because this wanted to live by works and not by grace. Religion is based off works. The relationship with Christ is based on love and grace. We do not earn grace but our freely given grace but it is not free because grace did cost Jesus His life. Grace is free to us though. If we were saved by works then works would be salvation and none would be able to attain it.
7 Israel is no longer God’s people but, those who follow after Jesus are God’s people elected for something better than the promises the Jews are entitled to receive. Those who are called by God to salvation will receive glory thru grace because they obeyed His call and came to Jesus. Jews sought after and Messiah and still do. The Messiah, Christ came and they rejected Him as Lord and Savior and did not accept Him as their Messiah. There was a small percentage of Jews who accepted and then carried the gospel into the world.
8 There will come a time the Jews realize the truth about Jesus and accept Him as Lord and Savior. For now though the Jews will continue to reject Jesus. This does not mean a Jewish person can not come to Jesus; it is that they just are not because of this. There today is a growing number of Jesus who believes Jesus was Messiah and use the New Testament but they may not accept Jesus as their Lord though.
