The Relevance of Psalms Today
Psalm 4 (part 3)
Our society and Christian community are bombarded with the images of all the evil of the world, and many are asking the question David poses at the beginning of verse six. David’s answer is timeless.
There be many that say, Who will shew us any good? Lord, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us.
The answer to the question is the Lord. I am praying this prayer for everyone that is reading these words right now, “Lord lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us.” Open our spiritual eyes, Lord, that we see what You see. Our Heavenly Father promises to work all things together for our good and for His glory. Do you see His light in the tragedies that are occurring in our world today? I do. I see thousands crying out and turning to our God for salvation, comfort, protection etc, but this will not be televised. What was going on in your life that caused you to cry out to God to save you? In Genesis 50:20 Joseph proclaim to his brothers, “But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.” The same God that used Joseph’s tragic situation to save many does the same today. Do you see His light?
Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than in the time that their corn and their wine increased.
Because David could see what God saw there was continual gladness in his heart, in times of plenty, but more so in times of little. Is this your testimony? Is the joy of the Lord evident in your life during the difficult time? David goes on the say:
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, Lord, only makest me dwell in safety.
Not only is there gladness when we see every situation though our spiritual eyes, but there is peace, the absence of fear, and there is confident assurance of God’s protection. This is how our God desires us to live. This is the abundant life Jesus speaks of in John 10:10b. “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” Are you in this place in your walk with God? Are you totally confident in the outcome of every situation that comes up in your life? Daddy, open our spiritual eyes to see things as You see them.
