The Relevance of Psalms Today
Psalm 5 (part 2)
I feel like Paul when he uses the phase “I beseech you.” I beg of you to hear what the Spirit of the Lord is saying concerning our spiritual preparation for each day. It is so easy to dismiss this time of preparing our hearts and minds for the world we will encounter. When we “look up” we encounter a God who has overcome the world for us.
“For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness: neither shall evil dwell with thee.”
As we “look up” each morning and spend time with God the Father and God the Son we are filled with the power and fruit of the Holy Spirit. Through the powerful presence of the Holy Spirit we take on the attributes of our God. Throughout the day we will discern the wickedness around us and not be drawn in/hath pleasure in wickedness, but allow the Holy Spirit to take authority and overcome the evil around.
“The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity.”
As we “look up” we understand that because of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit the foolish shall not stand in our sight. As God’s children, we will discern and hate the workers of evil schemes. Understand my brothers and sisters, the workers of iniquity are not the people who display and carry out evil schemes. The workers of iniquity are described in Ephesians 6:12. “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” This is where the fruit of the Spirit comes into play. We are to love the people and take authority over the forces that influence or possess them.
“Thou shalt destroy them that speak leasing: the Lord will abhor the bloody and deceitful man.”
It amazes me that a lie told about you even from the lips of a stranger can hurt so very much. We know from scripture that Satan is the Father of lies and his desire is always to hurt. However, David shares with us in this verse a promise from our God, “Thou shalt destroy them that speak leasing:” If you are dealing with a situation where you are being lied on take this promise and through the power of the Holy Spirit take authority over that lying spirit. I tell you what. I know without a shadow of a doubt that we have authority over this lying spirits. So for everyone reading this post that is dealing with a lying spirit, through the power of the Holy Spirit I take authority over that spirit in your life right now. To God be the glory for He has shut the lying lips this day. Amen!
When we spend time each morning with the Lord, we receive power, confidence, and authority over every situation we will encounter throughout the day. “I beseech you therefore” my brothers and sisters purpose in your hearts to spend time each morning in the presence of the Lord.
