The Relevance of Psalms Today
Psalm 5 (part 3)
In last week’s study we observed three characteristics of an ungodly man or woman and God’s response to them. Here is a brief review of the ungodly attributes and God’s response:
Ungodly Characteristics God’s response
1. Wickedness Will not dwell with God
2. The foolish He hates and they will not stand in His sight
3. Liars He abhors them and will destroy them
David, in the next few verses, gives a striking contrast to the characteristics of the ungodly as he describes how he enters into the presence of the Lord.
“But as for me, I will come into thy house in the multitude of thy mercy: and in thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple.”
The first characteristic observed here is humility. David knows and we should know that we do not deserve the privilege of entering into the presence of the Almighty God. It is only because of God’s abundance mercy, goodness, kindness, and faithfulness that we can stand before Him. Please understand it is of no merit of our own that we are granted audience with God.
The second characteristic observed in this passage is reverence. As David stood in the presence of God, he was overcome by His (fear) magnificent glory and splendor which caused him to worship. Take a moment, I don’t even care if you do not finish read this post. Just enter into His presence and allow yourselves to be overcome with His majesty and worship Him. Okay, I do have to finish the post, but when I done. Hallelujah, I will enter into His presence and worship.
“Lead me, O Lord, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make thy way straight before my face.”
The third characteristic observed is a teachable spirit. David said to the Lord “lead me” teach me; guide me “in thy righteousness.” God righteousness encompasses His wisdom. David needed, as we need, God wisdom to combat his enemies. 2 Corinthians 10:3-4 says, “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)” In the last part of this verse, David asks the Lord to make His way clear. Do you truly desire God way? Well here is a brief prayer from me for you. Daddy, make Your way clear to us today. Amen.
Each morning as you “look up” enter into the Lord’s presence humbly, with reverence and ready to be taught. Our Heavenly Father wants to prepare you to be victorious each and every day.
