The Relevance of Psalms Today
Psalm 5 (part 5)
HALLELUJAH, HALLELUJAH, HALLELUJAH
“But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee.”
What comes out of our mouths is, or should be, so very different from those described in the previous two verses. David said, if you have put your trust in the Lord “rejoice” be glad, take delight in Him. “Shout for joy,” let’s do this right now together HALLELUJAH, HALLELUJAH, HALLELUJAH. Why are we rejoicing and shouting for joy, because our God, HALLELUJAH, defends us. Because before our day even starts we know that our God has gone before us and has subdue our enemies and has given us victory, HALLELUJAH. David says because we love His name we will go throughout the day with a joyful spirit, just because we love His name. Daddy, thank you!
“For thou, Lord, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.”
We the children of God, those who have accepted Jesus Christ as Savior are the righteous in this verse. Our God, our Father will bless us “with favour.” The word “favour” made me stop and think for a minute. We hear and use this word a lot, but the Lord this morning had me to stop and really think about His “favour.” His “favour” does not mean that we are favored above anyone else. It means that His mercy has been and is great towards us. Our God’s “favour” His mercy surrounds, engulfs and embraces us like a protective shield. HALLELUJAH, thank you, Father for your “favour” for the opposite of Your “favour” justice. We do not deserve Your “favour” but we do deserve Your justice. Your mercy towards us is all glorious and magnificent.
David ends this Psalm with glorious praise to his God and admonishes us to do the same. We have observed David’s spiritual preparation for his day. He understood that he needed God’s power, provision, protection and guidance to be victorious over the enemies he would have to face each day. Therefore, David entered into the presence of the Lord each morning humbly, reverent, and ready to listen and obey. David knew the faithfulness of his God. He looked up and God heard him, encouraged him and answered his prayer. He was assured by God, even before his day began, that he had victory over his enemies. Do you have that assurance? Do you want that assurance? “Look up!”
