The Relevance of Psalms Today
Psalm 7 (part 1)
As I meditated on this Psalm, the Spirit of God began to speak to my heart about His call on David’s life. He appointed and anointed David king. He gave him a kingdom and dominion over this kingdom. The Lord also, and most importantly, gave him access to Himself. David needed this access because his enemies were continually trying to take what God had given him.
The Lord has also place a call on our lives. 1 Peter 2:9 says, “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light:” Like David we have been appointed and anointed by King Jesus. We are royalty with unlimited access to our King and we have been gave dominion over this world. Like David we have an enemy that continually tries to take away what God has given us.
As we look at Psalm 7, let us learn how through the power of the Holy Spirit the same power that was at work in David’s life, defeats the enemy giving us victory and dominion over what God has given us.
“O Lord my God, in thee do I put my trust: save me from all them that persecute me, and deliver me:”
My first question, where is your trust? I have to speak what the Spirit is speaking to my heart. Sadly, many Christians trust that money will save them and deliver them from their persecutors. In countless cases, it is because of money that many Christians are ridden with worry and anxiety which are persecutors. Money is the currency of this world; faith is the currency of heaven. David makes it very clear “in thee do I put my trust.” Only God can save and deliver him from his persecutors. We need to take heed and put our trust in “the only wise God.” Him and Him alone will save and deliver us.
“Lest he tear my soul like a lion, rending it in pieces, while there is none to deliver.”
The enemy has not changed. 1 Peter 5:8 states, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:.” Because we are the children of God the enemy cannot possess our soul, but if our trust is in something or someone other them God he has access to oppress our soul. If you are a child of the King and you are experiencing depression, anxiety, fear, discouragement or anger, and I am sure you can add to this list, all of these are oppressive spirits. If your trust is in something or someone other than the true and living God, the end of this verse will seen true in your life. You will feel that “there is none to deliver.” This is not God will. Trust Him and Him alone.
