The Relevance of Psalms Today
Psalm 7 (part 5)
What did God see when He tried David’s heart concerning this situation? Did David truly believe that the God he served would bring the wickedness of the wicked to an end and establish the just? The Lord is looking at your heart and my heart to see what we truly believe. David heart is revealed in verse 10.
“My defence is of God, which saveth the upright in heart.”
David boldly proclaims, in the mist of horrific persecution, I believe God. He knew without a shadow of a doubt that God always saves the upright in heart. This is what God saw when He tried David’s heart, total confidence in the power of His God to save and deliver him. What does God see in our hearts when we are in the mist of hardships, grief, persecution etc? There are two New Testament passages the Holy Spirit led me to that illustrate David faith and should illustrate our faith during these times. Jesus says, after teaching his disciples numerous kingdom principles, “Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him into a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.” Our faith in our God and our love for our God should be unmovable. We are that house and we are unmovable because we are built upon the Rock, Christ Jesus. Hallelujah!!
This principle can also illustrated in another very frequently quoted New Testament verse, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28) Do we really know this? This verse is so rich with blessings of comfort, assurance and encouragement. The Lord says, “all things” the good, the bad and the ugly “work together for good.” There is, however, a description of the person(s) to whom this promise is given. “To them that love God,” do you love Him? I mean do you really love Him? David’s love for God can be seen in his writings; therefore, I know it was visibly seen in his life by others. Is your love for the Lord visible to others? Do they look at you and say, he/she really loves the Lord? I know I have totally digressed, but it’s all good. It continues the description with “To then who are the called according to his purpose.” Are you part of “the called?” Are you fulfilling God will for your life? It was God’s will for David to be king. David did not allow his humble beginnings or the opinions of others to keep him from fulfilling God’s purpose for his life. Has God called you to be king and you are still in the role of shepherd? David believed God, do you?
The Spirit of the Lord wants you and I to seriously ponder the questions set for in this study. It is time to move forward in God purposed will for our lives and the answers to these questions are of vital importance. The Holy Spirit wants to speak, deliver and empower you to move forward. Let’s go forward!
