Welcome to John Wolfs bible study and God bless you all!
I am not ashamed of the Lord, nor will I back down from believing His Holy Word.Philosophy is the search for truth, the Bible is the truth (John 14:6;17:17) for it's God's word to us!
Over the years I've been asked the question:" How could a loving God command someone to kill innocent men, women and children, like God commanded David and others in the Old Testement?" Well, this is a legitimate question, and I've often wondered myself the same thing.I've been able to answer this question for myself after having studied some of the historical evidence that has surfaced over the years about these nations that the Israelites were commanded to destroy. If you are a believer in the God of the Bible, then this may not be so hard to understand:
1.) The Bible declares in many verses to numerous to list here, that God created all things. Therefore, since He created all things,it all belongs to Him,everything. Can not God do with His creation whatever he chooses?
2.)And,since God had a specific purpose in mind when He created all things, and, since all that He created was originally perfect, but, then became corrupted through sin, marred by sin, just as a piece of pottery is marred, does it not make good sense to destroy that which is not fit to be saved, just as a potter would destroy a vessel that is not worth saving?
3.)Historical evidence uncovered by archeaology of the ancient civilizations shows that these nations were very heathenistic in their practices of human sacrifices to false gods.Molech,Milcom,Ashterah and many other false gods to numerous to mention were designed in such a fashion that those offering the sacrifices could place their infant children in it's bronze arms which were stretched out over open flames, thereby allowing their children to burn to death as human sacrifices to appease these pagan dieties.Would it not show how merciful God is to children in commanding them to be destroyed, rather than them being burned to death?Ezekiel 18:4 declares that all souls belong to God.He can do what He wishes with His own property.Besides, those small children,I believe, were immediately ushered into His presense,in heaven.
4.)Does it not make further sense that those adults who were offering their children in the fire,be punished for their attrocities, immediately?I don't know about you, but,I think so!
5.)We must keep in mind God's purpose for creating all He did and it's original perfect state.God created what He did, because He is a God of love,He could do nothing else.We must also remember that satan is the cause of all the evil that we see around us in this world, not God.Mankind left to himself, will only grow more wicked, contrary to all the psychology professors and their teachings, they can not help anyone with the sin problem, they only make it worse. It is satan's plan to destroy all that God has made, because he hates God and God's highest creation, man.
These are just a few reasons that I've discovered over the years and the answers that I've come up with, for God to be justified in His dealings with wicked and evil men.Maybe this will be a help to someone else in their understanding....Thank you....JW
