The Relevance of Psalms Today
Psalm 7 (part 6)
In the last lesson, David proclaims that he believes God for his deliverance from his persecutors. David’s physical battles illustrate the spiritual battle we fight in our lives. He knew that the God he served protected the upright in heart. We need to understand that the Spirit of God that dwells within strengthen us to be victorious in the battle.
“God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day.”
God continually reigns over the righteous leading, guiding and teaching us His ways through the Holy Spirit. He is also continually angry with the wicked. However, being a merciful, loving, and gracious God, He daily gives the wicked/unsaved the opportunity to surrender their lives to Him.
“If he turn not, he will whet his sword; he hath bent his bow, and made it ready.”
If our persecutors do not surrender to the Lord, then our God prepares to fight for us. Hallelujah!!! “He will whet his sword.” Whet means to sharpen. His sword is His word. Hebrews 4:12-13 says, “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints ond marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.” God word will pierce their hearts revealing their evil intents. Do not allow the enemy to deceive you into believing that God has not seen nor does He care about the persecution you suffer.
The Spirit of God that dwells in you will strengthen you and fight for you. “He hath bent his bow, and made it ready,” our God has made us ready for the battle. He has given us His word and His powerful Spirit which cause us to be victorious every time.
“He hath also prepared for him the instruments of death; he ordaineth his arrows against the persecutors.”
God’s “instruments of death” for our persecutors are His word and His Spirit. What are the arrows mentioned in this verse? We are His arrows His Spirit and His word is housed within us. God authority over our persecutors is housed within us. Open your mouth and let the word of God come forth in the power and authority of the Holy Spirit and defeat the enemies in your life. Open your mouth with authority in bold prayer being confident that the God you serve has heard and will answer. Spend time in His presence listen for the Holy Spirit to teach/instruct you and guide you to victory. Open your mouth and speak the truths of God word to others freeing them from their persecutors. It is not you fighting it is the Spirit of God fighting through you and for you. Glory hallelujah!!!
