Hi and God bless all of you!
Here in the Atlanta,Ga.area,as many of you may already know, went through some extremely bad weather last evening. Many homes, schools and businesses received severe damage, but praise God no injuries and no deaths. Now that's something to praise the Lord about!!!!!
I remember the verse in the book of Job 5:7,which says,"Yet man is born to trouble,as the sparks fly upwards." What this speaks to my heart is that, just as the sparks fly upwards from a campfire and float around for a few seconds, they are quickly extinguished and vanish away.So too, will the troubles that befall every human who will ever live, come and go.
None of us,not one single individual, whether saint or sinner, are exempt from troubles knocking on our doors. It will sooner or later come to all.The method by which we handle these troubles is the "Litmus Test" of where our hearts and faith are established. If our faith is in human wisdom and ingenuity,we will quickly discover the vanity in this. The wisdom of this world is earthly, sensual and devilish.
However, the wisdom that comes from God is the wisdom we all should persue in life, for God is infinitely wise and all knowing. We may not always understand everything that comes our way,but if our trust is in the God of all comfort,we can confidently say,God is in control. For example, the storms that hit our area last night. Some may ask the question,"why did my house receive such devastation and the neighbors house escape relatively unscathed?" "why did this happen to me and not someone else?"
I won't tell you I have all the answers, because I don't,but I do know the One who does have all the answers. And from the word of God and the book of Job,we may be able to understand a little better why things happen to us the way that they do.
Few people in history, that we can turn to,have undergone the calamity amd loss that Job had to endure. We all know the story.Job was a just man in faith and obedience to the Lord, yet Satan's desire was to destroy Job and all that he had.The God in whom Job trusted knew Job better than anyone, including Job.We must understand that Satan's goal for our lives is to "steal, kill and destroy, but Jesus came to give life and give it more abundantly" (John 10:10).
The Lord allowed Satan to test Job.This story is given to us as an example of the sanctification of the believer.Job knew his Redeemer lives and his faith was firmly planted in this fact.Job was a man of faith in God.He served God for the right reasons, but Satan didn't believe that,he accused Job to God of only serving Him for selfish reasons." He only serves you Lord because you bless him so much" was Satan's lie.
God allowed Satan to touch every material possession in Job's hands and Job's response was "The Lord gives and the Lord takes away, blessed be the name of the Lord." I'm relatively certain that Job did not understand what was happening to him,yet he trusted God! Then Satan was allowed to touch him in his physical body, yet in all this he did not charge God foolishly. It is to be noted that Job's wife felt differently. "Curse God and die" was her response to trouble,a most foolish response indeed!
When calamity and trouble befalls the child of God,how we handle it is a testimony of our walk with God.No,on this side of the grave we may never understand everything that comes our way,but we can have the confidence that Job had and say "I know my redeemer liveth and on that day I will see Him face to face" and "The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away, blessed be the name of the Lord."
Yes,trouble befalls everyone at one time or another, but how we handle it is our responsibility.Let us be lights that shine in a dark world and give hope and faith to a hopeless and faithless world......Bless His Holy Name.....Thank you.....JW
