Hi beloved of the Lord.May the blessings of Jehovah be upon His people!
My post from yesturday dealt with the difference between those who practice sin in an unbridled lifestyle with little or no restraints, and those who have come to Christ and have been set free from sinful habits.I John 3:4-10 deliniates between a true believer in Christ and those who just wear the Name of Christ and take it off after church on Sunday.
There is so much false teaching in the body of Christ in these last days, that we need to be on-gaurd more than ever.Anyone that has been taught and believes that it doesn't matter what kind of life you live after receiving Christ has been lied to,and unless they get free of sin in their life, the dominion of it,they could possibly lose their soul.
As I suggested yesturday,my topic of study will come from the context of Romans chapters 6,7,and 8.Let's first look at chapter seven.I know it seems a little odd to start with this chapter, but it puts forth a very important truth regaurding our standing in Christ.
The very first question Paul the Apostle puts forth to the church at Rome is:"Don't you know that the Law has dominion over a man as long as he is alive?" Now,the Law referred to here is the Law of Moses, but could very well be any law or rule that man can devise to "help" in his sanctification i.e. church attendance sacriments, praying to dead saints, praying to Mary, prayer shawls or anything else that we can think of to draw us closer to God.We need to understand that if you are a born again christian (there is only one kind of christian, the born again kind),then you are as close to God as you are going to get.The Bible says that we are seated together with Christ on His throne next to the Father (Eph.2:6).
When a person comes to faith in Christ and commits his ways to God in faith with the intent to follow and obey to the best of his abilities with the help of the Holy Spirit,Paul says in verse 4 that,we are dead to the law through the body of Christ. In the mind of God,when an individual gets born again,he becomes dead in Christ. We are baptized into Christ's death (Rom.6:3).This is why Paul later stated that the life that he now lives is not him but Christ living in him,he was crucified with Christ,he (Paul) is dead (Galatians 2:20).
You see, many hold to the mis-conception that;"now that I am saved,I have to keep the Ten Commandments".Wrong, wrong, wrong! We will never be able to keep the Commandments. They were not given to man for him to keep, they were given as a tutor,a school master to bring us to faith in Christ (Gal.3:24-25).The law was only given to us to show us what God expects of us and to show us what sin is.We must remember that if we are to attempt to keep the law, then it must be kept perfectly at all times day in and day out,24-7-365.Not only that it must be kept in thought, word and deed.Everything we think, say or do,must be perfect.I only know of One who did that, and it's not me or you. This is why Paul said in I Corinthians 1:23-24,"...to the Jews a stumbling block, and to the Greeks foolishness,But those who are called, both Jews and Greeks,Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God."
Tomorrow I will continue with our freedom that we have in Christ found in Romans 6,7 and 8.Until then may God richly bless you all..........Love in Christ......JW
