The Whole Armor of God
Ephesians 6:10-20
"...and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;..."
Continuing on with the weapons of our warfare,we come to the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.I'll be the first to admit,it has not been easy for me to learn this completely, and there are still times when I fail miserably in using the sword of the Spirit to fight the enemy of my soul. However, the one thing that I have learned from it is that Jesus Christ was the Master swordsmen when it came to using it properly.I will continue to learn from Him as to how to use it and when to use it in battle with the enemy.
Hebrews 4:12 tells us that the "...word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of the soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." Jesus,in His wilderness temptations, used the word of God to defeat the Devil with his attack on Himself.
Satan is the master deceiver in these last days just prior to the Lord's coming, this is one of the most important reasons why we as believers should be studying the word more closely than ever before. If we know the word of God it will not be so easy for the devil to confuse us or lead us astray.Children of God,as the Apostle John said in his letter to the body of Christ,I John 3:24-4:6,we are to test the spirits to see if they are from God or the enemy, and the way you do that is by using the word of God to judge all teaching and doctrine against the plain teachings of Scripture.Oh,but there are many who will say,"we are not to judge, that is God's responsibility" in an effort to shift the responsibility off of themselves onto someone else. This is a prime example of what I'm talking about, when it comes to judging.Satan would have you to believe we are not allowed to judge, but this is exactly how he creeps into peoples lives without them ever even knowing it.We do not have Scriptural authority to judge the intents and motives of peoples hearts, why they do what they do,but we do have the direct command of Jesus Himself to judge what is taught by people,as to whether or not it is from God or the devil.
Jesus told us to beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Saducees. He told us that we could tell the kind of tree we are looking at,by the fruit hanging on the branches. He told us no fountain can bring forth salt water and fresh water from the same spring. If these examples are not clear indications of using judgement, then I've totally missed it and do not understand plain simple language. We better know who we are listening to,our soul hangs in the balance, and depending on what we are taught,it could mean the difference between heaven or hell for all of eternity.
The only way that we will ever be able to defeat the enemy is to know the word of God,rightly divided.I pray almost daily,Lord give me a better understanding of Your word, and help me to rightly divide it so as to know what it really says, and He will do the same for you too.
The Holy Spirit is the "paraclete" and the Spirit of truth, that will lead us and guide us into all truth. We must be willing to be lead by Him.He will teach us all things that pertain to life and godliness, and a true understanding of God's word.
Tomorrow,we will look at praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit.....Until then,be blessed of the Lord..JW
