Preaching Christ Crucified I Cor.1:18-25
From the Pastor's desk and heart....
Welcome to Calvary's Cross Ministries, good morning and God bless you all in your walk with Christ! The Spirit of truth will lead you and guide you into all truth.
O.K.,there seems to be alot of contention from a few who forward posts to my FB page, implying that the KJV version of the Bible is the only Bible the Holy Spirit ever wrote, and that all other versions are of the devil. It seems their thought is,"If it was good enough for Jesus and the Apostles to use the KJV,then it's good enough for us".Let me correct with all the love possible, those who oppose themselves with this type of thinking.
First-the KJV Bible is the most respected version of the Bible for all time and eternity, and I use it frequently in reading and in my studies. It is as accurate a version as some other versions, however, there are some verses that could have been translated better so as not to lead into error.
For example:
In I Cor.15:55,you will find the word "grave" in KJV,but in other versions you will find the word "death" (NLT,AMPL,HCSB,NIV,NASB) and "hades" (NKJV).So,why the difference in translation? Because of the context of Scriptures in which you find the word. However, this can lead to error and false doctrine. The Watchtower and Bible Tract Society (Jehovah's Witnesses), the Seventh Day Adventists, the Worldwide Church of God (Herbert W.Armstrong),and Arnold Murray (Shepherd's Chapel) to name a few, follow the rendering in the KJV to back up their false teaching of "soul sleep" because of the English rendering of "grave".
The Greek word in the original language is "hades" and not "mnay-mi'-on".The former, "hades", is the word most translated as "hell" in the KJV except in I Cor.15:55. "Hades" is never translated as grave anywhere else in the New Testement. The latter, "mnay-mi'-on",is the Greek word used in the N.T. for "grave, tomb, sepulcher" the place for the burial of the corpse. It is never translated as hell. This is where the cults mentioned above capitalize on,to prove their soul sleep doctrine.
My point is simply this:
Although the KJV is a word for word translation of the original languages of the Scriptures into English, not to mention one of the oldest, the Geneva Bible,Wycliff Bible and the Tyndale Bibles being older,it is the most widely respected English version of all time.If a person were to come into the possession of an original English version of the KJV of 400 yrs.ago, you would have great difficulty in reading it because of all the Elizabethen langauge.Little do the KJV only thinkers understand,is that the current version of the King James Bible is a revision of the original Translation many times over,so basically their arguement for it is of little consequence.Once again,I love the KJV,I use it regularly,I began reading it when I got saved over thirty years ago,but to believe that the KJV is the inspired English version by the Holy Spirit,is the height of ignorance. There are no perfect English translations of the original languages.Only the original Hebrew and Greek manuscripts are inerrant.
To be sure though, there are many versions in English that are nothing better than trashcan filler, and should not be used. The KJV is not one of them.To be dogmatic and condemn all English version accept one as being inspired by the Holy Spirit is misleading indeed and causes more division than unity. It becomes a matter of straining at a gnat and swallowing a camel.Hair splitting is what the Scribes,Pharisees and hypocrites of Jesus day were doing, and we know what scathing words Christ had for them.
One of the reasons why some versions are missing some verses compared to others is because of the use of different manuscripts being used in the translation process.I have in my library approx. 7 different versions in English, and not one of them eliminates the truth of who Jesus Christ is and what He came to do.True, there may be better ways of translating some verses in all of these Bibles, but if any seeking heart were to pick up any of these Bibles and begin to read them, they could in fact, find salvation through Jesus Christ, and this is the main thing we all need to keep in mind.Anytime someone wants to begin proving the KJV as being a perfect version,I begin to walk away, because they do not know what they are talking about.
It is my suggestion that we do more research into how we got our current English versions before trying to defend one version over another. If we don't do it in love we are not accomplishing anything for Christ....Thank you....I love you all in Christ............JW
