Acts 8:9-13 King James Version (KJV)
9 But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one:
10 To whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God.
11 And to him they had regard, because that of long time he had bewitched them with sorceries.
12 But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.
13 Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done.

9 So Simon stopped practicing sorcery because how saw the power of the Spirit and thought if he could use this power it was stronger then anything he could do, this did not mean he came to Jesus by faith to receive but more tricked people into thinking that he was in the Spirit when he wasn’t he was one of the first false teachers.
10 They thought because of what he was doing that he was a man of God that was his whole idea the people saw what he was doing a were lead astray today we have the scripture to show us how is of God but often times those who are not twist the scriptures remember Satan knows the bible as well so it is one of the reasons we are to study the scriptures.
11 They were cautious because of his past they knew that he wanted people to follow him, it is likely because of this if he did come to Christ, he most likely would have been called as a servant helping someone else this was he would no longer lead people astray. Paul was a teacher of the Jews prior to Christ but after he came to Christ he became the apostle to the Gentiles.
12 Philip came bringing the word and baptized, his goal was to allow Christ to save this was not Simon’s goal Simon’s goal was to have his own following.
13 Simon saw that actually power of God thru Philip and knew that he had never come close to anything like that so he becomes a believer.
