Ezra 7:14-16 King James Version (KJV)
14 Forasmuch as thou art sent of the king, and of his seven counsellors, to enquire concerning Judah and Jerusalem, according to the law of thy God which is in thine hand;
15 And to carry the silver and gold, which the king and his counsellors have freely offered unto the God of Israel, whose habitation is in Jerusalem,
16 And all the silver and gold that thou canst find in all the province of Babylon, with the freewill offering of the people, and of the priests, offering willingly for the house of their God which is in Jerusalem:

These are my thoughts, please share yours.
14 So he was given full authority to do what he needed to do to have the temple rebuilt and for the people to come back, The king was lead by God to trust him because to give this authority and control over the kingdom funds because the Persians were paying for it as well. So times the doors God knocks down for us may be the doors only He can knock down, this was one of the ones only He could knock down.
15 The king gave back what was taken from the temple now he is giving gold not to fund the building but giving it just because, sometimes we need to be willing to give to God just because He gave to us, this king never accepted God but he did serve the Lord much better then some that call themselves Christians.
16 So this start of giving gold and sacrifices was all it took for the temple to start going again because the king being behind it may have caused extra motivation for some people. We may not know how much effect our actions may have on others.
