FOR THOSE WHO ARE STRUGGLING WITH VICES
Let me say that if you are struggling with something in your life and you’ve committed your life to Christ. You are probably wondering why are you still strongly compelled to do those things you wish not to do. You have probably been so discouraged by a vice that you’re on the verge of giving up on serving God.
Let me tell you this; if your heart of hearts has surrendered to God and you repented of your sins and you are honestly striving to enter into the liberty which is a reality in Christ. I exhort you to never give up, deliverance is on its way. Remember the essence of who you are has changed, the motives of your heart have changed, and now you long to be pleasing to the Lord. Don’t give up; there is a blessing on its way to you.
Over the years I have seen many delivered at the very moment they were saved, and yet others were not and struggled with their vices; but got their deliverance later. The main point is not to give up if you are one who is struggling with a vice or vices in your life. The truth is that none of us live without the possibility of sinning during each day of our lives. The word of God teaches us that :
(6) If we say that we have fellowship with Him and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.
(7) But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
(8) If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
(9) If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
(10) If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His Word is not in us. 1 John 1:6-10 MKJV
There are a couple of significant phrases and points made in this passage. Walking in the Light and Confession. There are many in the body of Christ physically who are walking in darkness, trying to cover their sins and or deny they are sinning. Either one of these actions are considered walking in darkness, deception, and lies against and does not practice the truth of the gospel, the people who do this are inadvertently saying God is a liar and his Word ( Christ ) is not dwelling in them.
The second point is confession of sinful vices which is a must to walk in the light. If we confess our sins; God is trustworthy, a God of mercy, and justice based upon his righteousness to cleanse us from the unrighteousness, or the injustice or wrongfulness of the actions involved in vices. Confession is to admit the truth of an accusation, the law ( old testament ) reveals to us what sin is and theme of those penalizing sins and vices are carried into the realm of the new covenant as sins and vices which are not to be practiced.
There are many passages of scripture which define sin, when one agrees with the Word “ what sin is” and admits they have sinned; pardon is granted. At this point God’s will is that one abandons the practice of that vice they have confessed. As one minister use to say “ admit it and quit it “. However; that is easier said than done in a lot of cases. But don’t give up, there is hope if your heart is set on being delivered. Godly sorrow for sin is a key element to bring one to a place of resolution and consequent deliverance.
(9) Now I rejoice, not in your grief, but because the grief led to repentance; for you sorrowed with a godly sorrow, which prevented you from receiving injury from us in any respect.
(10) For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, a repentance not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world finally produces death.
(11) For mark the effects of this very thing--your having sorrowed with a godly sorrow--what earnestness it has called forth in you, what eagerness to clear yourselves, what indignation, what alarm, what longing affection, what jealousy, what meting out of justice! You have completely wiped away reproach from yourselves in the matter. 2 Corinthians 7:9-11 WNT
If one loves the Lord, they will grieve in their spirit when they sin against God; this is godly sorrow which leads to repentance which leads to salvation which leads to deliverance. God’s desire is to progressively sanctify us through repentance, confession, and reliance upon his ability to instill and empower us to be delivered us from the pit falls of life.
(19) Nevertheless the foundation of God stands sure, having this seal: "The Lord knew those who are His." And, "Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity!"
(20) But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honor, and some to dishonor.
(21) Therefore if anyone purges himself from these, he shall be a vessel to honor, sanctified and useful to the Master, prepared for every good work.
(22) But flee youthful lusts, and follow righteousness, faith, love, peace, with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. 2 Timothy 2:19-22 MKJV
God empowers us, it is our responsibility to use that power to purge ourselves from iniquity, injustice, and wrongfulness by continually seeking his face, to walk in the light as he is in the light, and if we know we’ve sinned to continually confess our sins with a whole heart for the purpose of being delivered.
Brethren keep the faith today by abiding in the Word, examining yourselves to see if you are walking in the light as he is in the light, and by confessing those sins or vices the Lord has revealed to you, then finding someone to help keep you accountable and help your through godly counsel and prayers of agreement, and the faith will bring to the place of deliverance with will be permanent and eternal.
