HOW EMOTIONS MANEUVER
Honestly; how many emotions do you fight in order to do the will of God’s word? Emotions are identifiable and therefore subject to our will, which should always be in order with His will. Jesus the Word made flesh wrestled with his humanity, when in prayer he requested “ let this cup pass from me “.
(38) Then He said to them, My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Wait here and watch with Me.
(39) And He went a little further and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me. Yet not as I will, but as You will.
Matthew 26:38-39 MKJV
Yet when it came to whose will would be dominant he became subject to the will of the Heavenly Father.
It is plain from the context of this passage that emotions presented choices in this pivotal point in the timeline of the plan of salvation. Jesus was our example, our model, and our paradigm concerning emotions that challenge our destiny.
Our destiny depends upon the choices we make, and those choices are given to us through the word of God, the will of God, and through the unction of God. Choices involves Changes, Changes are not always easy, but God’s Choices’ always cause the best Changes concerning our Spiritual Growth. When God presents his will to us, we can choose to obey and be blessed, or disobey and be worse. If we choose his will overriding our own he will strengthen us just as he did Jesus in Gethsemane.
(43) And an angel appeared to Him from Heaven, strengthening Him.
(44) And being in an agony He prayed more earnestly. And His sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.
(45) And when He rose up from prayer and had come to His disciples, He found them sleeping because of sorrow.
(46) And He said to them, Why do you sleep? Rise and pray lest you enter into temptation.
Luke 22:43-46 MKJV
Let me add that there will always be a Gethsemane that precedes every Golgotha in our lives. Every godly choice we make crucifies the flesh so the Spirit may express God’s perfect will through our obedience. But it takes pressing in prayer to accomplish the ability to yield to the Spirit by crucifying the flesh, even after the angel appeared to Him from Heaven, it was not to deliver him from praying but to strengthen him in the prayer. For after the angel appear he was still in the agony of his emotions but could now pray more earnestly until the prayer was so powerfully pulsating his sweat became filled with blood falling as a premonition of his thorny crowned head dripping with blood flowing down on his body for our total salvation.
Pressing Prayer is the Place of Perfection!
Before we ever get to Gethsemane, we face an opposition of many obstacles just as Jesus, who rose from obscurity to popularity to opposition. When we are unknown by the enemy we are not a threat, but when we are saved and baptized and make a public confession, we may become popular among those within the body, but will become a threat to the flesh, the world, and the devil. Therefore we will end up in a battle of clashes with those three realms of reality. Our old man with his old carnal mind, the mindset of the world, and the totally antithetical views of the devil and his minions. Jesus combated the devil in the forty days of prayer and fasting which are also called the forty days of temptation.
Temptation always tantalizes the emotions which are partial to the appetites of the flesh. The lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. Pressing Prayer contends with these elements and the emotions they emit into the arena of spiritual warfare. When we press into prayer God will send us strength through his heavenly resources which enhance and enforces our ability to contend and win the battle of agonizing emotions which tax our prayers.
Brethren keep the faith today by learning to be a contender in prayer, the hordes of hell fear those who have learned the art of effective overcoming prayer more than an easily manipulated emotional pushover. All of hell fears the anointed vessel whom has put every negative combating debilitating emotion which comes to mind under their feet. Prayer unveils and reveals as well as avails, prayer opens the mind to God’s unction, God’s heart, God’s hand, and God’s plans. Prayer is the key to finding our destiny in this world and our security in the next one.
