Numbers 23:15-17 King James Version (KJV) 15 And he said unto Balak, Stand here by thy burnt offering, while I meet the Lord yonder.
16 And the Lord met Balaam, and put a word in his mouth, and said, Go again unto Balak, and say thus.
17 And when he came to him, behold, he stood by his burnt offering, and the princes of Moab with him. And Balak said unto him, What hath the Lord spoken?
Numbers 23:15-17 International Standard Version (ISV)
15 Then he told Balak, “Stand by your offering while I go alone to meet the Lord.”
16 Then the Lord met with Balaam and gave a message to him. “Now go back to Balak and speak to him.” 17 So Balaam returned to where Balak had been standing, that is, next to his offerings, accompanied by the Moabite officials.
“What did the Lord say?” Balak asked him.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.
15 He didnt oppose this pagan offering but knew that there was no answer in it, the answer would come from the Lord.
16 God still meets with Him, often if we seek God He will meet us in some way.
17 Balak wanted to know what the Lord said, we are not given the message there, this could be because Balaam had not intention of speaking God's truth but trying to change it for his benefit and many claim Christ but do the same thing with God's word today.
