Preaching Christ Crucified
From the Pastor's desk...
Good morning to all,and may the Lord bless each and everyone of you today,in Jesus Name.
...
We will continue our study of the J.W.'s (Jehovah's Witnesses) false prophecies and their record of issuing them.As we have seen, they lay claim to being used of God as His mouthpiece.Making a bold statement such as this puts an individual or organization in a rather precarious position.Either they really and truly do speak for God,and therefore, speak what God tells them to,or they speak from their own imaginations and dreams. These are the choices, there are no others (The Watchtower,Jan.15,1959,pp.40,41).
We will examine the WT statements for predictions concerning the years 1874 and 1914.In their book,"The Battle of Armageddon",1897,it was claimed that Jesus second coming had taken place invisibly in the year 1874.In 1922,the WT said,Quote:"No one can properly understand the work of God at this present time who does not realize that since 1874,the time of the Lord's return in power, there has been a complete change in God's operations" end quote (The Watchtower,Sept.15,1922,p.278)
Then in 1924 the WT said, quote,"Surely there is not the slightest room for doubt in the mind of a truly consecrated child of God that the Lord Jesus is present and has been since 1874"end quote,(The Watchtower,Jan.1,1924,p.5).You will be hard pressed to find one J.W. who believes this false prophecy about Christ coming in 1874.
If this were not enough for them to realize that they had gone the bounds of Scripture with their deception, they continued yet again to predict the end of the world by 1914!
The Watchtower claimed that Armageddon began in 1874 and would end in 1914.Quote:"The date of the close of that "battle" is definitely marked in Scripture as October,1914.It is already in progress,it's beginning date from October 1874" end quote (The Watchtower,Jan.15,1892,p.22).
So,we have seen from their own records that they have predicted the end of the world and Armageddon, rather prolifically,I might add,at least once. And the return of Christ at least once.So how many times does it take for someone to predict something,as if God was the one telling them to say it,and it not come to pass, before we could rightly reject them as false prophets? Only once! In their defense, had the leadership (C.T.Russell) of the Watchtower, confessed to the sin of false prophesying, and had repented, and asked for forgiveness, there would be room in the New Covenant for the forgiveness. However, the facts show that no true repentance had taken place. For they continued to predict the end of the world on several more occasions. The last prediction that was made by the leadership of the "Organization" was set for October 1975.This event too, came and went unnoticed. At the time of this failed prophecy, approximately 2 million Witnesses left the Organization, nearly bankrupting it.
In closing,I would like to say, again, that when an organization or group of people, anyone, has a distorted view of the Lord Jesus Christ and His atonement for the sins of mankind,by that I mean, who He is and what He did at the Cross, they will be in error about a great deal of things concerning proper biblical exogesis.
Jesus Christ and Him crucified for the world,is the bedrock of the faith, the foundation, and the resurrection is the proof. If our spiritual house is built on anything or anyone other than Jesus Christ,we have built our house on quicksand.
Until tomorrow,God bless you and keep you......Love in Christ,John.
