From the Pastor's desk....
Good morning my friends and family.I pray that everyone of you are in good health and full of the joy of the LORD!
"....And delivered just Lot,vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked:(For that righteous man dwelling among them,in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawfu...l deeds;)The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgement to be punished:....." ( II Pet.2:7-9 KJV)
This little post this morning is not to talk about Sodom and Gomorrah,or the evil of it.Neither is it to compare it to the evils we see and experience in today's world, even though they are the same. The reason for the post this morning is to bring some insight and encouragement to the Body of Christ, concerning how not to allow the attitudes and life style's of the world,to vex our souls on a day to day basis.
Over the years,I've always worked in the secular world to support my family and I,and as you can well imagine there are multitudes of individuals who live any type of life they choose. They say what ever comes to their mind, filthy talk, blasheme, all because they believe they have the freedom of speech.Well,be-that-as-it-may,we as Christians do not have to allow ourselves to sit and listen to whatever comes out of their feeble minds.
Personally,I make every attempt to let the person(s) knows that I'm not interested in listening to their rot, anymore than they are in listening to me preach Jesus to them.I give, what I hope and pray,is a good witness for the Lord, and I leave the rest up to God.However,it behooves us as Christians not to continue to sit in their midst, and continually listen to the garbage coming out of their mouths. This is what the Scripture is showing us about Lot and his life in the midst of a crooked and perverse world. The Bible says his soul was righteous, but he was allowing it to be vexed on a daily basis. It was wearing him down. This is the same thing that can happen to us,if we do not guard our hearts properly.I do not believe in being an "elite separatist". We are to be light and salt in this deranged world, but,we are also not to be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. Why? Because, most likely, they will bring you down rather than you lifting them up.
I've been laughed at and lampooned over the years for taking a stand against sin that most people consider nowadays to be mere fun and excitement. The moral decay in this country is appalling, yet most people just look at it as,"the times have changed,we are living in the real world". We must be wise in what we allow ourselves to be involved in,and with whom we keep company.Jesus was a friend to publicans and sinners,he loved them, and we should too! But the one thing we must keep in mind is this,Jesus Christ was God manifested in the flesh,no sin coming from others could or would ever effect Him,He was God. We are not.Sin has an effect on us with eternal consequences to go along with it.We must be careful not to allow ourselves to much freedom in the company of unbelievers, lest we vex our souls as Lot did.Trust me,if you do not already know this,it WILL take a toll on your soul.I had learned this lesson the hard way.
Let us draw near to God with a pure heart,in full assurance of hope, and shun all appearance of evil.Don't be an "Elitist" but don't be a conformer to the ways of the world either. We are to "come out of the world and be separate, and touch not the unclean thing" and we are to be "salt and light in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation".Let us use wisdom and discretion to bring a balance to our lives, and to be an effective witness for Christ...
Until next time be blessed of the Lord, and live in the Spirit......love,John
