Luke 11:47-51
47 “Woe to you, because you build tombs for the prophets, and it was your ancestors who killed them. 48 So you testify that you approve of what your ancestors did; they killed the prophets, and you build their tombs. 49 Because of this, God in his wisdom said, ‘I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill and others they will persecute.’50 Therefore this generation will be held responsible for the blood of all the prophets that has been shed since the beginning of the world, 51 from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who was killed between the altar and the sanctuary. Yes, I tell you, this generation will be held responsible for it all.
Jesus’ words above was a prophecy against the Jerusalem of the first century. We then see this fulfilled in the destruction of Babylon the great in the verses below found in Revelation chapter 18. Thus Jesus tied Babylon the great to the Jerusalem of the first century.
Revelation 18:20 & 24
20“Rejoice over her, you heavens!
Rejoice, you people of God!
Rejoice, apostles and prophets!
For God has judged her
with the judgment she imposed on you.”
24In her was found the blood of prophets and of God’s holy people,
of all who have been slaughtered on the earth.”

Verses 50-51 above: 50 Therefore this generation will be held responsible for the blood of all the prophets that has been shed since the beginning of the world, 51 from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who was killed between the altar and the sanctuary. Yes, I tell you, this generation will be held responsible for it all.
The detail that calls my attention is:"...responsible for the blood...from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah".
From Abel to Zechariah we have a period close to 3,500 years rounding off. GOD created the nation of Israel around 2,500 years after Adam when He called Moses to get the Hebrew people out of Egypt. 2,500 years corresponds to two and a half days of God's work in the week of 7 days.
The point is: Why then will the blood shed throughout that period from Abel to Zechariah fall apon the generation of Israel as written in Matthew 23:v.35?
It is impressive that mystery or riddle to decipher or be deciphered in the Scriptures. Is the key or even the secret of the enigma in John 8: v.43-47 combined with Matthew 23: v.33-36?
Why did JESUS said that?

Satan has always been trying to wipe out the faithful and the Jewish leadership of that time were tying to kill Jesus as satan their father was using them to try to stop the church. I was amazed at the content of your post, notably in the detail where it reads: "... to kill Jesus as satan their father was using them to stop the church".
I fully agree with your interpretation, and through Scripture I found one of the reasons why Satan sought to kill JESUS, imagining that it would prevent the creation and development of the Church. Ephesians 3:v.1 to 13 gives us a very wonderful description of Gods' PURPOSES for the Church. Paul Apostle full of wisdom, said to the brothers of the church in Ephesus: Verses 8 to 11:
8 Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;
9 And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:
10 To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God,
11 According to the eternal PURPOSE which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord: Verses 5 and 6:
5 - Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto His holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;
6 That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel: - Aleluia! praise be God - and Verses 1-4:
1 For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles,
2 If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward:
3 How that by revelation He made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words,
4 Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ). Verses 12-13:
12 In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of Him.
13 Wherefore I desire that ye faint not at my tribulations for you, which is your glory.
Honestly, I enjoyed exceedingly the message above of Paul Apostle about the PURPOSES of God, and as you said: "the Jewish leadership of that time were tying to kill Jesus as satan their father was using them to stop the church", and also to stop the PURPOSES of our God, the Almighty, through the Church in Christ Jesus.
Ephesians 1:v.3-4
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:
4 According as He hath chosen us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love:

The Jews preferred Barabbas instead JESUS.
